The latest diesel locomotives to hit the UK shores, the Class 68’s were ordered by DRS to supplement its variety and extensive fleet of locomotives, but with its immense power and top-of-the-range technology, it has become the apple in the eye of many train operators, including Chiltern Railways, who operate these as the flagship locomotive of their London to Birmingham expresses.
With a last minute burst of power, Direct Rail Services Class 68, 68008 ‘Avenger’, makes a smokey and noisy arrival at Birmingham Snow Hill after working a Chiltern Mainline service from London Marylebone.
The train certainly pulled in at a fair rate of knots, I was half expecting it to have overrun the end of the platform.
Thankfully it didn’t.
