Class 47

This fleet of 500 locomotives were built to be the standard mixed use locomotive of the British Railways fleet and they served their purpose well until the advent of locomotives such as the Class 66 saw their numbers drop like a stone.

Seen in long-term storage outside the exhibition hall at Swanwick Junction is Rail Express Systems liveried Class 47, 47761, formerly named ‘Colossus’.


Being given a lick of paint at Swanwick depot is pioneer British Rail Class 47, 47401 ‘North Eastern’.


Undergoing restoration at Swanwick depot is British Rail Class 47, D1516 (47417).
